Gulf Islands Operations Centre

Sidney, BC

This three-story building is the headquarters for the Gulf Island National Park Reserve, which includes facilities for admin staff, marina operations, and an interpretative centre. Glulam and wood was used to blend the country's first LEED® Canada Platinum building into nature's backdrop.

This was the first building to be given a LEED Canada Platinum rating. This three-story building is the headquarters for the Gulf Island National Park Reserve, which includes facilities for admin staff, marina operations, and an interpretative centre. More than 27% of the building materials used were manufactured from recycled materials. Glulam columns and beams support a majority of the loads, minimizing the amount of steel members required. The Douglas Fir used for Glulam members, wood framing members, and wall finishes are all of a local species. The Douglas Fir glulam beams were left exposed to minimize the interior finishes while still maintaining a high quality look.

Architect : Larry Mcfarland Architects Ltd.

This project was LEED® Platinum certified.
